Helvetica is of course the typeface of choice for so many designers. If this is the case with you, you may be interested in these icons based on Helvetica bold (or 65 as it is also known).

I saw this piece of work on SwissMiss and couldn’t help but laugh. Fantastic flow chart which has made my day. I am going to conduct a sing-a-long now to test it.

It certainly has been a long time coming but Grafik magazine have finally launched their new website.

25th – 29th October: Cafe Oto are showing the winners of the long established annual competition, of the most beautiful swiss books.

The competition has been running since 1943, when a jury of 5 experts selected the 25 most beautiful or best executed books. This year, a jury selected 32 “Most Beautiful Swiss Books” from 2008 on the basis of their quality in terms of design, typography and overall conception. Innovation and originality are also important factors, while the use of material and printing techniques are also considered. Mmmm.

Opening party: Sunday 25th October 7pm with guest speaker Laurenz Brunner.

Thursday 29th October 7.30pm: ‘Superlatives in book design’: round table discussion with experts from the field of book design.

Geneviève Gauckler has an exhibition at the Kemistry Gallery entitled Digitally Isolated which runs from the 6 November until Christmas.

An interesting video from Adobe about how they might use multitouch in their software. Apparently CS5 will be out in April next year so we’ll see if this arrives then too.

While we don’t usually blog about new Apple updates we are allowed to make the occasional exception. Apple today launched, amongst other things, a new mouse featuring multi-touch, finally an end to the pain of cleaning the old Mighty Mouse. I have used touch sensitive mice for scrolling before and have never enjoyed the experience but of course Apple has a knack of getting these things right, let’s hope so. Review to follow via Twitter.
