Pig 05049

This is a fantastically detailed project in which Christien Meindertsma researched all the byproducts of Pigs and created an exhibition and book showing the results. A beautiful and informative project.

“Christien Meindertsma has spent three years researching all the products made from a single pig. Amongst some of the more unexpected results were: Ammunition, medicine, photo paper, heart valves, brakes, chewing gum, porcelain, cosmetics, cigarettes, conditioner and even bio diesel.

Meindertsma makes the subject more approachable by reducing everything to the scale of one animal. After it’s death, Pig number 05049 was shipped in parts throughout the world. Some products remain close to their original form and function while others diverge dramatically. In an almost surgical way a pig is dissected in the pages of the book – resulting in a startling photo book where all the products are shown at their true scale (1:1).”

Stout/Kramer

Some great work from the Dutch design group, Stout/Kramer. Nice website too.

“We are trained as graphic designers.
The profession is constantly changing and as we see it, can no longer be defined.
Our way of working distinguishes itself by being conscious of the position
the designer can take in the process.
We don’t want to set ourselves up as merely designers of a message.
We see ourselves as editors and directors of communication.
As editor the designer interprets the content and context of a message.
As director the designer is responsible for the appropriate means of communication.”

Gill Sanders

Generation Press are printers with a website/blog, designed by Build, where they showcase some of their more interesting print jobs. This particular piece, stationery for a psychotherapist, got my eye and was designed by Holmes Wood.

CleanUp

While Kathryn and I were in New York we went to a harrowing exhibition at the United Nations raising awareness of the damage done by landmines. CleanUp is a project designed by Parsons graduate Hideaki Matsui and is bar soap shaped like a landmine and sold to raise money to support landmine removal, survivor assistance and The Cambodia Landmine Museum. Great work for a fantastic cause.

Speechbreaker

This is a neat little website, created by LeanMeanFightingMachine, which lets you recreate campaign speeches from Nick Clegg, David Cameron and Gordon Brown from their party conferences. You can send your creations to YouTube when you’ve finished too and share with all your friends. This is great fun.

Egberto Esmerio

Just wanted to quickly post some great work by a fellow student at the LCC, Egberto Esmerio. Two projects, the first is a book project with a lovely Mark Twain quotation and the second is the branding for his FdA show. Check out his website for more work.

Don’t Mention The War

A lovely, but old, piece of work that I saw earlier on today (via Kathryn’s computer screen). This work by Kim Rugg rearranges newspaper headlines in alphabetical order in order to censor the real content. Check out more images and information here and here.
